While the winter blues linger outside, inside there was something special happening for the Hiawatha Animal Humane Society-Wabasha County — volunteers gathered with scissors, fabric, and plenty of love to make catnip toys for kitties in need.
It may seem like a small thing, but moments like these mean the world to animals waiting for comfort, play, and a sense of home. There’s truly nothing like friends, creativity, and a little catnip to lift spirits — human and feline alike.
We are endlessly grateful for the volunteers who give their time, their hearts, and their compassion so freely. Because of them, tails are twitching, whiskers are wiggling, and winter feels a whole lot warmer. 💕🐱

This Valentine’s Day, WideSpot becomes the northernmost stop on the Mardi Gras parade route as California-based jazz trumpeter and showman Jeff Bordes brings his New Orleans–inspired revue to Wabasha on Friday, February 14. The show features a special collaboration with Driftless favorites Sue Orfield (tenor sax) and Faith Ulwelling (vocals), alongside local drums and bass artists.
Expect an evening filled with lush romantic ballads, joyful Mardi Gras energy, blues, brass, and heart — all wrapped into a dance-ready celebration perfect for Valentine’s Day. 💜🎺🎶
